Combining the deep space of perspectival illusionism with flat, geometric and decorative patterning, I am drawn to the simple energy of rhythmic mark-making. My paintings and drawings frequently combine the gestures of fine rendering with a more “unconscious” and repetitive practice such as the painting of countless colored stripes on sticks or pouring untamed liquid blobs of housepaint on the floor. I am interested in this dialogue between “paint as paint” and “paint as illusion”.
